Chihuahua collars are one of the most important accessories for your favourite pet. You should try your best to go and find the appropriate collar for your chi for many reasons. First don’t just go and buy any collar you should know what is the appropriate size that fits your chi’s neck. If you don’t already have a Chihuahua you must first buy one then buy its collar. The main reason for all of the above is that the collar should never pressurize your chi’s neck. Also even the opposite – a large collar is dangerous because it can get caught to somewhere resulting to choke your chi.
Your collar should have a ring for attaching a leash to it. It should be made by leather or other safe fabric and it should be flat. Adult Chihuahuas may not grow very fast but the young ones really do! So every five to ten days you can check if it still fits correctly to your chi. Don’t be shocked if you find out that you should change your chi’s collar about two or even more times until your chi is fully grown up!
For your chi’s leash you should go and buy one that is about five to six feet long. Any fabric that is flexible enough will do. There are some expandable leashes that give the freedom to your pet to run away several feet from you. These are very nice because they give your chi the opportunity to move and play around while in the same time you control its actions and keep it safe especially in places with many other people around.
Also you should never consider buying a leash that is made by chain. Chain could be dangerous for your Chihuahua because it can hurt its legs if it gets around them. Also don’t buy a training collar that has a ring at both sides of it. Such collars tighten up when your chi runs away. These training collars should be used only for training not for everyday use so avoid them too.
Your chi should have identification on it all the time because it could get lost. That identification could take many forms like microchips or tattoos. You should prefer a collar tag along with these because it will provide extra security just in case anything goes wrong.
